Aptowicz spent several months in the Thomas Jefferson University Archives mining the historical collections related to Dr. Thomas Dent Mütter, chair of surgery from 1841-1856. Her book is described as a mesmerizing biography of the brilliant and eccentric medical innovator who revolutionized American surgery and founded the country’s most famous museum of medical oddities.
